History

Hommsåne is located in Homme in Valle municipality. The waterfall rights belong to the landowners of three farms. In 2004, one of the landowners was involved in the construction of the Bjørgum power plant for Småkraft and contacted Småkraft with the idea of a collaboration on a development in their own river. In 2017, a contract was signed with Småkraft, who accepted the risk and worked on the licensing process, as well as the development itself. NVE granted a licence in 2010. Excavators arrived in the summer of 2014, and by the spring of 2016, the power plant was ready to deliver its contribution in the form of new, renewable energy and local business revenue. The Hommsåne power plant is nicely placed in the terrain above the Homme farm.

The project

The implementation of the project has had its challenges along the way. The steep terrain in parts of the penstock route has presented certain problems. In addition, there have been two instances of flooding in the watercourse during the construction period, which had to be dealt with, and which delayed construction activities somewhat. Despite these challenges, the project has been completed without harm to personnel or damage to machines and installations. Communication with NVE and collaboration with landowners during the project phase has also been good. Contributions by the landowners in the form of local knowledge and their assistance during the application phase enabled a smooth project implementation.
