Tua power plant

Tua is located in Verran municipality in Nord-Trøndelag county. In this project, Småkraft has partnered with private owners of waterfall rights and Verran municipality, which also holds rights to the river.

Tunselva river is located on the north side of Beitstadfjorden with an outlet into the fjord by the hamlet of Tua. Tua is located 7 km from the village of Follafoss. A licence for development was granted in the spring of 2007.

For this project we established a blasted pool as an intake basin instead of a traditional, high concrete dam. The last 40 metres of penstock leading down to the station presented challenges, as this route has a slope of about 40 degrees.

In a more traditional power plant construction, a cast concrete foundation would have been established for each pipe joint, which is relatively expensive in projects of this size. Instead, we have mounted the pipes on special pipe clamps that are fastened with 1 piece of embedded rock bolt for each pipe joint.
